Companies and individuals alike, organizations - they are all in a fight to get a share from the web browsers pie. Many of them free, but that doesn’t mean they don’t worth your attention.
What do their developers gain if the browser is free? Well this is a good question. Companies get to promote themselves and other products they have, they get to change standards in web development. Organizations - most non profit - communities that do it for sharing a passion; individuals - each of them work in a certain area and they compiled a browser that suits their needs, and off course, other’s needs that share those interests.
Some things to keep in mind when choosing a web browser would be: technical support and reliability, security vulnerabilities, features, speed in surfing.
Some of the browsers out there that deserve mentioned are:
- Internet Explorer - the browser developed by Microsoft, the leader of the market
- Mozilla Firefox - a fast, secure and highly customizable browser
- Opera Web Browser - this browser is know as the fastest, and with use of the lowest resources. They also have developed a free Opera browser for mobile devices (PDA, cell phones, smart phones)
- Netscape Navigator - it offers speed, flexibility and social integration
- AOL Explorer - browser developed by the AOL company
- Avant Browser
- Maxthon
- Acoo Browser
- Flock - the social web browser
- Safari - developed by Apple, offering blazing performance for surfing. Windows version available as well
I recommend the use of Firefox browser for several reasons:
- Security: although all web browsers have security vulnerabilities, Firefox is not as much targeted as Internet Explorer, the leader of the market
- High customization: Firefox is supported by a large community of developers, that also come with interesting and useful add-ons that can add new features or tiny tweaks to your browser. The main add-ons categories are: RSS, news and blogging; web and developer tools; downloading and file management; privacy and security; search tools; social and sharing; web data, alerts and widgets; photos and media; bookmarks, customizations and language / translations. With all these add-ons you can literally do anything you want with your Firefox browser.
- Google toolbar for Firefox offer indispensable features that any browser should have:
- Google Safe Browsing that alerts you if a web page that you visit appears to be asking for your personal or financial information under false pretences
- an efficient pop-up blocker
- AutoFill function makes shopping a breeze by enabling you to fill out web forms with a single click
- AutoFix option checks your spelling and corrects all of your text with a single click
Safe surfing!
